1. What is your favourite thing to do on your downtime?
I love listening to music when I'm alone...it allows me to escape from reality for a little while, finding myself again within a beat, or a set of lyrics. Also, being with friends who make me laugh is something I could never get enough of.
2. Where is the place you would like to travel the most?
Last year I would have said LA, but I achieved that goal this year and have been there a few times already. This coming summer, I would love to experience the East Coast and head to New York for a while, and eventually...experience the dancing world in places like Europe and Japan. I want to see what the dance world is like outside North America, and take in as much as I can on new ways of thinking and training.
3. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
In the next 5 years, I will have established myself as a professional dancer not only in Vancouver, but places like LA and New York. I will be a working dancer booking movies and music videos and large staged shows around the world. I will have a more complex understanding of hip hop culture and it's effects on our society today, and I will be continuing my training in all forms of hip hop, including the other elements. I will also be teaching the knowledge I will have gained from those around me, and spreading my love and passion for hip hop.
4. What in hip hop culture inspires you the most?
I am strongly inspired by the freedom of expression hip hop has created. Within anything you do, you can find acceptance, understanding, and support. This culture has no boundaries, and it has formed artists that are filled with emotion and knowledge creating our society today. It inspires me because I feel supported through anything I am doing, whether it be experiencing a new dance style or training myself further in something I've known for years. Hip hop has always been there for me, and continues to be there for me within everything I do.
5. What does being a SOULdier mean to you?
After spending the summer in LA this year, I came to the realization of how lucky we are in Vancouver to be a part of a company that respects and teaches the TRUE elements of hip hop culture. I was respected in LA for the knowledge I already had, for the styles I could respectfully do, and for the cultural understanding I carried with me. The true creators, the ones who brought the funk into our world, were very pleased to see that we are taking it back to our roots in Vancouver. To me, being a SOULdier means being a part of a unity that is hungry to learn and teach about a culture that is so important to them. We breathe, sleep, and eat hip hop. And, thanks to Kim, we are respected in this world because we know what we are doing. And we refuse to know anything but the TRUE, ORIGINAL facts about this culture. |
